Rapid Renewal of the Coating of a Penstock in a Hydroelectric Power Plant

JettyRobot has successfully completed a pilot project to prepare for the recoating of a penstock at the hydroelectric power station Dlouhé stráně. The task was to remove the old coating and corrosion and then apply a new coating.

The aim was to prevent deep corrosion, reduce regular annual shutdowns and apply modern coatings with a long service life.

In the past, recoating was done manually, but this was slow, costly and risky. This was because the previous method required workers to be present inside the penstock, putting their safety at risk.

The old coating and corrosion were removed using JettyRobot 6 and high pressure water jetting technology. The new coating application was done by airless spraying of one-component coatings.

Result:

• Robotic recoating is 4 times faster overall.
• The adhesion of the coating to the surface is 2x higher than with manual application before.
• The work is safe, no workers are present in the penstock during the application.
